Refyne reads the selected text or focused field and shapes it for the active workflow. 3. **Continue**: Review the result, then let Refyne paste it back where you started. ## Built for agent work Refyne recognizes supported coding-agent surfaces and can tailor instructions for Codex, Claude Code, Antigravity, OpenCode, T3 Code, and Cursor. It uses the identified agent and available workspace context to clarify the task, constraints, and verification steps. ## Availability - **macOS 26 or later**: Refyne is a native Mac app and currently requires Apple silicon. - **Supported coding agents**: Use Refyne in the six supported desktop hosts and identified Codex, Claude Code, and OpenCode terminal sessions. - **Provider connection**: Prompt refinement requires an internet connection and sends the prompt and selected context to the configured cloud provider. On-device voice and local history stay on your Mac. --- # Install and permissions Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/install-and-permissions Install Refyne and grant only the macOS access its core features need. ## Install Refyne 1. **Download**: When a public build is available, get the signed build from the Refyne download page. 2. **Move to Applications**: Open the download and place Refyne in your Applications folder. 3. **Launch**: Open Refyne from Applications and complete the setup assistant. ## Required permissions - **Accessibility**: Lets Refyne read the focused field and place the refined result back into it. - **Input Monitoring**: Lets Refyne detect your global shortcuts while you work in other apps. - **Microphone**: Required only for voice dictation. Note: If a permission still appears disabled after you grant it, quit and reopen Refyne, then check System Settings > Privacy & Security. --- # Your first refinement Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/first-refinement Turn a rough request into a focused instruction. ## Refine text 1. **Choose the text**: Select the request you want to improve. If nothing is selected, Refyne uses the focused field when supported. 2. **Press Fn + Control**: The default shortcut starts the refinement and opens the compact overlay. 3. **Use the result**: Refyne returns the improved instruction and pastes it back into the original app. ## A useful starting point You do not need to write a polished prompt first. Include the goal, any firm constraints, and the outcome you expect. Refyne can organize the rest. Note: Example: Fix the settings crash, keep the existing UI, add a regression test, and tell me which files changed. --- # Shortcuts Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/shortcuts Use the defaults or choose bindings that fit your Mac workflow. ## Default shortcuts - **Refine: Fn + Control**: Press both keys together to refine the current selection or focused field. - **Voice: hold Fn**: Hold to record and release to transcribe. ## Change a shortcut 1. **Open Refyne**: Click the menu bar icon and open Settings. 2. **Open Shortcuts**: Select the action you want to change and record a new binding. 3. **Test it**: Try the binding in a text field. Avoid combinations already used by macOS or your main apps. --- # Refinement modes Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/refinement-modes Choose how much Refyne should change the original request. ## Choose a mode - **Auto**: Uses the active app and request to choose an appropriate shape. - **Coding**: Clarifies implementation work with relevant constraints and checks. - **One Shot**: Expands a short request into a more complete one-shot instruction. ## Switch modes Choose a default mode in Settings. You can also cycle the mode from the overlay when a refinement is active. Refyne remembers your selection. --- # Coding-agent targets Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/coding-agent-targets Shape instructions for the coding agent that will receive them. ## Automatic targeting Refyne can infer the target from the active app, window, and request. Use Automatic when you move between tools and want Refyne to choose the target. Supported targets include Codex, Claude Code, Antigravity, OpenCode, T3 Code, and Cursor. ## Choose a fixed target Set a target in Settings when you want every refinement to follow one agent's preferred instruction style. The target changes prompt structure, not the model used to perform the refinement. Note: Use a persona for your role or working style. Use a coding-agent target for the tool that receives the prompt. --- # Voice dictation Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/voice-dictation Speak a request, paste the transcript, or refine it automatically. ## Dictate anywhere 1. **Hold Fn**: Start speaking after the recording overlay appears. 2. **Release**: Refyne transcribes your speech and pastes it into the focused app. 3. **Refine if needed**: Turn on Auto-refine on release, or use the refine shortcut after dictation. ## Local and cloud transcription - **Local**: Runs on your Mac, works offline, and keeps voice audio on the device. - **Cloud**: Uses an online transcription service for higher quality. It requires sign-in, internet access, and available plan allowance. Note: If cloud transcription is unavailable, Refyne only falls back for genuine service availability problems. Sign-in, privacy, plan, and allowance errors are shown clearly. --- # Custom vocabulary Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/custom-vocabulary Help dictation recognize names, tools, and technical terms you use often. ## Add your terms Open Settings > Vocabulary and add product names, people, commands, acronyms, or technical words that dictation commonly misses. Keep entries short and specific. Add the spelling you want in the final transcript. ## Workspace terms When workspace context is active, Refyne can use relevant symbols as vocabulary hints. This helps with project-specific class, function, and package names. --- # Personas Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/personas Apply a reusable role, voice, or working style to your refinements. ## What a persona changes A persona adds focused instructions to the selected refinement mode. Use one for a recurring role such as code reviewer, technical writer, copy editor, or SQL specialist. ## Control where it applies - **Apps**: Limit a persona to selected applications. - **Targets**: Use it only for selected model families or coding-agent workflows. - **Modes**: Apply it only in Auto, Coding, or One Shot mode. Note: A persona with no scope restrictions can apply everywhere. Narrow scopes are safer when the persona has a specialized job. --- # Workspace context Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/workspace-context Give Refyne useful local project context without writing every path by hand. ## Connect a workspace 1. **Open Workspace settings**: Choose the local project folder you want Refyne to recognize. 2. **Let Refyne index it**: Refyne builds a local index of useful files and symbols. 3. **Write normally**: Relevant context can be attached when it helps the current coding request. ## Reference a file In supported coding surfaces, include a reference such as @Dashboard.swift or @src/auth/login.ts. Refyne resolves matching local files and uses only a limited amount of relevant context. File tags are scoped to coding workflows so ordinary mentions in chat or email remain untouched. ## Stay in control You can reindex, disconnect, or choose a different workspace from Settings. Review the refinement before sending it to your coding agent, especially when a request concerns sensitive code. --- # History and saved prompts Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/history-and-saved-prompts Revisit recent refinements and reuse instructions that work well. ## Recent history History keeps up to 100 recent refinements on your Mac. Open an entry to compare the original and refined text or inspect useful routing details. You can disable new local history or clear existing entries in Settings. ## Saved prompts Save instructions you use repeatedly, add tags, and assign a hotkey when useful. Saved prompts are deliberate templates and are separate from automatic history. --- # Privacy controls Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/privacy Choose when Refyne can use online services and what stays local. ## Local data - **Local voice**: Audio stays on your Mac when Local transcription is selected. - **History**: Recent refinement history is stored locally and can be disabled or cleared. - **Workspace index**: The project index is built and stored on your Mac. Relevant text may be included when you use cloud refinement. ## Optional diagnostics Anonymous product diagnostics are off by default. You can opt in or out from Privacy settings at any time. For the formal details, read the Refyne Privacy Policy. --- # Troubleshooting Source: https://refyneit.com/docs/troubleshooting Resolve the most common shortcut, permission, voice, and paste-back issues. ## Shortcut does not respond 1. **Check Input Monitoring**: Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Input Monitoring and confirm Refyne is enabled. 2. **Check the binding**: Open Refyne Settings > Shortcuts and confirm the action is enabled. 3. **Restart Refyne**: Quit the app fully and reopen it after changing a macOS permission. ## Text does not paste back Confirm Accessibility access is enabled, then try a standard text field. Some protected fields and custom app surfaces do not allow other apps to read or replace their contents. ## Voice does not start Check Microphone permission and confirm the Voice shortcut is enabled. If Cloud mode reports an account or allowance problem, switch to Local or resolve the message shown in Refyne. ## Still need help? Email support@refyneit.com with your macOS version, the app where the issue occurred, and the exact message Refyne showed. Do not include private prompts, credentials, or proprietary source code. --- # A macOS prompt refiner for coding agents Source: https://refyneit.com/prompt-refiner Turn rough coding requests into scoped instructions in Codex, Claude Code, Antigravity, OpenCode, T3 Code, or Cursor. See a worked example and what to review before sending. ## Start with the change you can describe A useful coding prompt names the problem, the boundary, and a way to check the result. Refyne helps organize those details in the field where you already work. It is a native macOS app, currently in private preview. Hold Fn + Control in a supported prompt field to refine your request. Review the replacement before submitting it to the coding agent. Terminal capture depends on an identified supported session and its bridge. ## Before: a request with enough facts to preserve This authored example shows a refinement pattern. It is not a recorded model run or a performance result. Both versions contain the same task facts. In our Next.js checkout form, pressing Enter on an empty email field submits the form. Require a valid email before submission, preserve the existing error styling, test keyboard submission, and run the web lint and type checks. ## After: a brief the agent can check The structure separates the requested change from the limits and verification. It does not invent filenames, a root cause, or a promised outcome. Goal Prevent the Next.js checkout form from submitting until the email field contains a valid email. Reproduction Press Enter while the email field is empty. The form currently submits. Constraint Preserve the existing error styling. Verification Test keyboard submission with empty, invalid, and valid email input. Run the web lint and type checks. Report the change and check results. ## Give context without asking the refiner to guess Name the affected behavior, a reproduction step, and anything the change must preserve. Attach a relevant file with a file tag or connect workspace context when the request depends on repository details. Selected workspace context can supply real files and symbols. Review the included context and the refined prompt. Secret filtering helps reduce exposure, but it does not replace choosing what to share. ## Choose the depth of the rewrite Auto adapts refinement depth to the task. Coding focuses on implementation instructions. One Shot expands a short request into a fuller brief. The target coding agent changes the instruction style, not the provider that performs refinement. Refyne supports Codex, Claude Code, Antigravity, OpenCode, T3 Code, and Cursor. It refines the instruction; the target agent still performs the coding work. ## Choose a workflow that fits the task Use a direct prompt when the request is already clear and short. A refiner is useful when you need to organize several known requirements, constraints, and checks before handing work to an agent. More words do not automatically make an instruction better. A coding agent plans and edits the repository. Refyne prepares the instruction that you send to that agent. A reusable prompt template supplies a starting structure; it does not know your project's files or requirements. A speech-to-text app supplies a transcript; dictation alone does not refine the task. The free browser coding brief builder is available now and organizes details you enter without an account or a model call. The Mac app adds AI refinement, capture from supported inputs, selected workspace context, and local dictation. The Mac app remains in private preview. ## Check privacy and availability before choosing it Prompt refinement uses a cloud provider and requires an internet connection. Prompts and selected context leave your Mac for that operation. Local history and default on-device voice are separate from cloud refinement. The private preview requires macOS 26 Tahoe or later and Apple Silicon. Public downloads and subscriptions are not open. Understand what stays on your Mac and what uses a cloud service. ## Speak the request where you work Hold Fn, speak after the recording overlay appears, and release to transcribe and paste into the focused app. The shortcut can be changed in Settings. Refyne is a macOS app with dictation, not a standalone speech-to-text model or a transcription API. The default local voice pipeline uses Parakeet on your Mac. Local transcription works offline and keeps voice audio on the device. Cloud transcription is an optional, separately labeled choice. ## Transcription and refinement are separate operations Transcription turns speech into text. Prompt refinement restructures the resulting instruction for a coding agent. Enable Auto-refine on release when you want both, or use the refinement shortcut after reviewing the transcript. Local voice does not make prompt refinement offline. Refinement sends the transcript and any selected context to the configured cloud provider. If you want a local transcript only, leave Auto-refine off and use local transcription. ## Dictate a request with a clear boundary Say what is wrong, how to reproduce it, and what should stay unchanged. Technical names can be added in Settings > Vocabulary. Review paths, symbols, and commands before sending the transcript. Illustrative spoken request, not a measured transcription result: In the checkout form, pressing Enter on an empty email field submits the form. Require a valid email before submission. Keep the existing error styling and test keyboard submission. ## Choose a voice path deliberately Local transcription runs on-device. Optional cloud transcription sends audio to the configured online provider and requires sign-in, an internet connection, and available plan allowance. Microphone permission is required for dictation. Accessibility and Input Monitoring support text capture, paste-back, and shortcuts. Privacy settings separately control cloud voice, telemetry, and quality examples. ## Preview requirements Refyne is in private preview for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 26 Tahoe or later.
